Aserrín de Abeja

"Aserrín de abeja" (Bee Dust) is a collaborative project with Oaxaca's Center of Design, involving designer Jesús Nieva García and bee wax artisans José Hernández and Petra Mendoza. This project emerged from the process developed for my examination work, part of my bachelor's graduate project. It explores a sustainable material sourced from Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico.

Aserrin de Abeja

“There is no intelligence in producing more things because it is possible. It needs to be better—better than it was previously” .-Hecht, S. (2010).

The material comprises bee wax and sawdust, a blend that alters the properties of these elements, resulting in products that are 100% sustainable, emit zero waste, and exhibit enhanced durability when utilized.

The culmination of this endeavor is the outcome of a 10-month investigation (February-November 2013), encompassing testing and production of the initial collection crafted from this innovative material. Named "Diarios de un MADERERO" (Wooden Man Diaries), it materializes into pencils.

"I noticed that a lot of students were not particularly interested in the ordinary and the mundane." Colin, K., & Hecht, S. (2010).

Through this project, my aim is not to create new objects but to enhance products that can contribute to addressing global issues like environmental preservation. The waste from a single plastic pen, when multiplied by millions, can have a significant impact on the environment
